Life as an English Major

Life as an English Major: Aphra Behn

Our reading that was due on Thursday was Aphra Behn’s novella, “Oroonoko: or The Royal Slave.”

Although it took a while to read, it was still pretty good, once you get past the introduction! In class, we were mainly talking about the race issues in this novella, and also a little bit about Behn’s background information. I think this would make for a great essay topic, there’s so much about the historical information, and the content itself is fascinating and has many layers that anyone can talk about!

This is a long and tedious read…for someone who is interested in racial issues back then, and especially written by a female author, then I think this would be a good place to start! Anyone out there who has already read this?
